As the cost of living crisis continues, tumble dryers have been called the most obvious thing to get rid of. And it's no secret that dryers (and even washing machines) can have a negative effect on our energy bills. However, if we want to save money or live a busy life, getting rid of the dryer may not always be the best option.

In June, we talked about how the price of energy is going up and how energy-efficient appliances really affect our energy bills. But now that energy prices have gone up and we have to use these tips to save money, is not using the tumble dryer at all really the best way to save money?

How People Use Dryers - The Numbers

From 1995 to 2018, 98% of homes had a washing machine, according to statista.com. In 2018, this number had risen to 98%. The number of people who own tumble dryers, on the other hand, has not yet reached 59%. But since more than half of the country has one, it seems that tumble dryers are still an important appliance for many homes. If you have a busy schedule and a tumble dryer is the only way to make sure your clothes are dry when you need them, or if you live in a small space and don't have room for clothes to dry in the air, getting rid of the dryer to save money on your winter energy bills may seem like too much of a sacrifice. So, those of us who need tumble dryers but are worried about rising energy costs should know what the pros and cons of using a tumble dryer are.

PROS: In the winter, it may take longer for clothes to dry outside if the heat isn't on.

If you let your clothes stay wet for too long, they may stay damp and you may need to wash them again, which could use more energy than if you had just used the tumble dryer in the first place. Putting wet clothes against your walls and doors to dry in the air can also make your home more likely to get mold.

- It's not always possible to dry the clothes of a whole family outside.

- It's not practical for many homes or smaller homes to have air dryers everywhere.

- A handy way to dry clothes when it's too cold to hang them outside to dry

Clothes don't need to be ironed as much when they don't have wrinkles.

A-rated tumble dryers use the least amount of energy and save you money in the long run ( see below.)

CONS

- Dryers that don't use energy well keep letting out hot air, which can make you use more gas or electricity and cost more.

Some clothes can't be dried in a dryer because of how they're made.

- The filters in the tumble dryer will need to be cleaned regularly.

- You need a good-sized space with good air flow in your kitchen, bathroom, or utility room.

- They cost money, but in the long run, they can save you money. However, not everyone can afford to buy a new energy-efficient appliance.

If you think the pros are more important than the cons, you may find that using a tumble dryer is very helpful. However, since many people are worried about the rising cost of living, here are a few energy-efficient tumble dryers we recommend to help you dry clothes well without spending too much on the bills.

Getting a clothes dryer

There is a lot of evidence that upgrading your home with more energy-efficient appliances can save you money in the long run. However, buying a new appliance is an investment, so it's important to know what energy-efficient tumble dryers are available to you within your budget and whether upgrading will help you save money in the long run before you make any commitments.

But if your current dryer works well and just needs a little TLC, it might be best to get it fixed instead of buying a new one, since a dryer that isn't working at its best could also be using more energy per cycle than it needs to.

Luckily, more and more brands are trying to make appliances that are better for the environment and use less energy. This will help us move toward a more financially and environmentally sustainable future.

Before you use or buy a tumble dryer, here are a few important things to think about:

Look for a dryer with an energy-efficiency rating of A or higher to save money on your energy bills.

Use the dryer only when the weather is bad, you're in a hurry, or you can't let the clothes dry naturally.

Less energy will be used if you use the dryer for shorter cycles.

Check to see if your current appliance needs to be fixed before you buy a new one. If your dryer isn't working right, it might use more energy than it needs to.
